Historical Fiction is one of my favorite literary genres. I definitely prefer those that are historically accurate, but am willing to grant authors a little leeway with the calendar to help the story. After all, it is fiction — simply set in a different time and place, often where life was more gracious.
These books transport the reader to completely different times and cultures. I can learn what it was like to be alive during the reign of Henry VIII — not so pleasant, or during the American Revolution; also a dangerous time in which to live. I especially enjoy historical fiction set in Scotland and England so, of course, I am a fan of Kathleen Morgan, Diana Gabaldon, and Phillipa Gregory, to name just a few.
