Tobacco Sun

Would you go to prison for your sister? Would you allow your sister to go to prison for you? Tobacco Sun, is Lorna Hollifield’s debut novel of pain and redemption set in 1947. The boys are back from World War II, and Jackie Robinson just signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Bing Crosby, the Andrews Sisters, Frank Sinatra, and Frankie Laine are popular. Life is good. Well, not for everyone.

In poor, rural areas across the nation, life hasn’t changed, and this includes the dusty tobacco fields of North Carolina. Every family has secrets, but secrets buried or ignored can come back to haunt when least expected. Each sister has the knowledge to set the other free, but will the pain and fear of one or the narcissism and blocked memories of the other prevent them from saving each other?
Told in a series of flashbacks by each of the characters, this examination of blocked memories, undiagnosed mental illness, a charismatic but predatory step-father, and dysfunctional family dynamics, is sure to be a literary success. Tobacco Sun will be available on June 13, 2017.
